Saxophone as a weapon against apathy.
The composer, poet and activist Alabaster DePlume belongs among the moving forces of Britain’s jazz renaissance but him and his saxophone remain impossible to be labelled in any way. He invites his musician friends into his studio and club Total Refreshment Centre and together they create eccentric, collectively improvised records. Alabaster DePlume debuted in 2012 with the album Copernicus, but more recognition was brought to him after releasing the record Gold – Go Forward in the Courage of Your Love which made it onto British best record charts of 2022. The amazing cacophony of spoken word and music presents him alongside his London colleagues traveling on the waves of spiritual jazz, dub or minimalism. In 2023 he released the album Come With Fierce Grace.
