Alewya (UK)

British rap’s future is called Alewya. The London based rapper mixes rough stories of immigrants with drum’n’bass or bashment club beats. She was born in Saudi Arabia, spent her childhood in Sudan and afterwards, her family moved to London.

African and Arabian roots play a significant role in her music; she connects them to contemporary happenings in clubs and the result is a fascinating genre hybrid – harshly contemporary but based in musical tradition. She acted, does modelling and sculpture as well as illustrates books. Right now, however, music wins for the multi-talented artist Alewye. After a few singles from 2020, NME placed her among the year’s most interesting acts which was confirmed by the debut Panther in  Mode EP. She toured the UP with Little Simz, who also featured her on the Drop6 record. “I want my music to give people the sensation they get when dancing until the morning in a club,” describes Alewya her music.
