Freezing cold techno and synth orgies. Atoem AKA Gabriel Renault and Antoine Talon from the French city of Rennes in Bretagne make raw dance music which hints towards the aesthetic of the endless 80s with its purist sound. They debuted in 2017 with the EP Ruins and then significantly scored with the recording Enter The World’s Symmetry from 2019 which includes the seven and a half minutes long coldwave hit Particles. Atoem released their debut album Entropy in 2023 and song titles that translate to – the ghosts of the past, the sinking ocean, the summer grave – make it clear that the duo isn’t pulling a very beautiful vision of the future out of their analogue and modular synths.
