CARL GARI

On the intersection of musical traditions.

The German trio Carl Gari (Jonas Yamer, Till Funke and Jonas Friedlich) describes their music as “psychedelic ghetto rave” and in theory, there is no reason at all for them to record collaborative albums with the Egptian poet and musician called Abdullah Miniawy. Music, however, is here to tear down borders and therefore allows the existence of a fusion of dub techno played on live instruments with Miniawy’s bewitching vocal that smoothly transitions between singing and spoken word. It works wonders when Miniawy fills the strict grooves with glosses about life in the Middle East. They first collaborated in 2016 and released an acclaimed EP The Act Of Falling From The 8th Floor three years later. Their concerts are always unique and extraordinarily hypnotic.
