The Slovak five-piece Tolstoys mixes genres and moods and creates music that doesn’t want to be restricted by boundaries. Their main signature is the voice of Ela Tolstova on the microphone. Together with the bassist Michal Smetana they form the central author duo. Ela started writing her first songs at the age of sixteen, they were later released on the debut album Botanika which won them a Radio_Head newcomer of the year award in 2018. The following record Mirror Me saw them flirting with a more electronic pop sound and got them nominated for an album of the year award. This year’s No Limit To Love draws from trip hop and leads all the way somewhere to a delightful hippie psychedelia. Tolstoys have played over 150 concerts, made it to festivals such as Eurosonic, BUSH, MENT and have of course travelled through all of Slovakia, Czechia and Germany. Ela Tolstova made it to Forbes’s 30 Under 30. They lived in Prague, then Berlin and today, Tolstoys are an international band consisting of musicians from Germany or New Zealand. Live, Tolstoys offer sexy rhythms as well as humanely warm melodies with a pinch of melancholy.
