Warhaus were established as a side project of Maarten Devoldere, the singer and founder of the Belgian pop-rock group Balthazar. During a hiatus of his main band in 2016, Devoldere tried to approach songwriting more personally which led to the creation of the melancholic collection We fucked a flame into being, reminiscent of black and white film noir from the fifties. On the second, eponymous album, Devoldere swears on the holy trinity of torn poets – Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Serge Gainsbourg. The third album Ha Ha Heartbreak, released last year, is influenced by the breakup with the singer/songwriter Sylvia Kreusch who had previously given vocal as well as songwriting input on both the second and third Warhaus album. The side project became a cult band for everyone who seeks empathy for their darker side in alternative rock.
